Heavenly Cloudsley
A contemporary residence replaces an old original cottage for new glory days.
Di Henshall Interior Design was approached by the prospective purchaser/developer of a small, original cottage not far from Noosa River, to come up with a design of a contemporary residence to replace the old house that had long since seen its glory days. The brief was simple – design a house that would suit an older couple, or a young family, or empty nesters, or a single person with visiting family, or an executive couple, or …… Whaaaat? In other words, design a fresh, interesting home on a small build footprint that would basically appeal to everyman and his pet!
Di had only recently returned from another visit to Palm Springs, one of the places in the world that lights her fire, so she drew inspiration from the clean lines, the simple architecture and the use of glass, stone and brick as so frequently seen in Palm Springs. She called upon her colleague and industry associate, Brad Hunt, to help her with the design of the roof, several other key elements and the tightening of dimensions to suit the restrictions of the site.
The result is stunning - and it did indeed appeal to a very wide and varied demographic when it was unveiled in 2021. Four bedrooms, a study, walk-in wine cellar, gas fire, sauna, pool change room and shower, a library and second study nook, a scullery off the ultra-hip kitchen, huge master bedroom suite and two separate outdoor living areas are all included. There is a playfulness that is apparent throughout the house, giving a sense of joy as well as homeliness, a hard act to pull off, but this could be regarded as a triumph.
